Radio communications with MV Maranui

The following radio logs from Auckland Radio ZLD were provided to the official enquiry into the sinking of MV Maranui ZMLA on 13 Aug 1968.

Notes:

  1. As a coastal vessel, MV Maranui did not carry a Radio Officer or have radiotelegraph. Communication between Maranui and Auckland Radio ZLD was by radiotelephone on 2Mcs, as shown in the first set of log pages below.
  2. While Auckland Radio was working Maranui on radiotelephone, it was also contacting other vessels via radiotelegraph, including the rescue ship Mirrabooka SFIE, and those communications are covered by the second set of log pages below.
  3. NORSTEM would be the Northern Steamship Company, owner of Maranui.
