Most of the transmitters at Himatangi Radio and most of the receivers at Makara Radio were controlled from two facilities in Wellington:
- Overseas Radiotelephone Terminal, and
- Radiotelegraph and Cable Terminal (for photo facsimile, telegraphy and other services).
The following information is from a NZ Post Office engineering lecture for trainee radio engineers. The document, dated January 1960, is courtesy Chris Underwood.
In this 1956 video produced for the New Zealand Post Office, Himatangi and Makara Radio Stations are seen briefly, beginning at 1:45.
