Researcher seeks missing piece
After a year of concentrated research, Invercargill writer Alex Glennie knows almost all there is to know about the Awarua radio station where his father worked for 30 years.
But he is seeking help to find a missing piece of the puzzle — stories and photographs about the home guard unit which protected the important facility during World War 2.
Mr Glennie knows guardsmen were rostered to protect the station day and night and has been told a home guards’ camp was established there.
But despite exhaustive inquiries including talking to three former station staff members now in their 90s and spending hundreds of hours searching the internet, he has been unable to unearth anything more.
