On 17-19 January 2014, an extensive programme of events marked the 100th anniversary of the opening of Awarua Radio on 18 December 1913.

A highlight of the two-day event was an organised tour of the former Awarua Radio site (which is now a dairy farm). The site tour included:
- the Unwin Radar-Tiger (Tasman International Geospace Environmental Radar) operating for La Trobe University, Melbourne
- the European Space Agency Awarua Tracking Station
- Awarua Radio Museum
