There was a water purification plant at the Awarua Radio Station, located immediately behind House 11, the first of the old cottages. The Glennie family lived in House 13, the last of the cottages, until 1962.
My late father told me that it was a water purification plant many years ago. It would have been used to treat bore water. When I was a child growing up on the Awarua Radio Station in the 1950s the plant was out of use. There was a large steel tank sitting on the curved concrete foundation you can see. We used to play inside the tank, which was heavily encrusted in rust.
